Gentle movement, shifting layers, and quiet reflection sit at the heart of this beautifully tactile glass workshop. In this relaxed Coffee, Cake, ’n’ Craft session, you’ll create a Sand Shifter (also known as a Sand Shaker) — a copper foil pyramid designed to be gently shaken and slowly enjoyed as its contents rise, fall, and reappear.
Using traditional copper foil techniques, you’ll construct and seal your pyramid before carefully choosing what to place inside. Sand Shifters can be playful and calming, filled with shells, charms, seaside finds, or tiny treasures that catch the eye as they move. If you wish, you can also create something deeply personal by including small keepsakes such as buttons, tags, or other meaningful items. For those creating a commemorative piece, there is the option to include a small amount of cremains, handled with care, sensitivity, and respect throughout.
Guided step by step by an experienced tutor, you’ll learn the basics of copper foil construction, assemble your piece, arrange its contents, and finish it ready to take home. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and anyone looking for a calm, supportive making environment. Held as part of our Coffee, Cake, ’n’ Craft series every Friday, it’s a gentle, thoughtful session where there’s plenty of time to work at your own pace, enjoy good company, and simply be present.
